‘Dublin City Council Dublin Winter Lights’ to remain on for the month of January
Published on 8th January 2024
Dublin City Council is delighted to announce that it has decided to leave the ‘Dublin City Council Dublin Winter Lights’ switched on in a number of locations until the end of this month.
The decision was taken because the Council feels the lights help illuminate what is usually one of the darkest months of the year.
The lights on O’Connell St (GPO, Spire, statues, trees), the Samuel Beckett Bridge and the Millennium Bridge will now remain on for another few weeks.
“After the excitement of Christmas, January is always a bit of a dreary month,” said the Lord Mayor of Dublin Daithí de Róiste. “So this year we’ve decided to leave some of the lights on for an extra few weeks to help cheer everyone up! Let’s face it, we could all do with a bit of a boost at this time of the year.”
The ‘Dublin City Council Dublin Winter Lights’ across the rest of the city were switched off as planned at the end of December.
The ‘Dublin City Council Dublin Winter Lights’ were once again hugely popular during December with Dubliners and visitors alike.
More than 45 thousand people visited Merrion Square Park to see the lights there.
