Lord Mayor of Dublin Daithí De Róiste commented, “The One Dublin One Book is an initiative I fully support in promoting the joy of reading across Dublin. This year’s choice, Snowflake has so many diverse themes and by the campaign’s youngest author to date, that I know it will resonate with many readers across the generations.
Louise Nealon says “I am delighted that Snowflake has been chosen as next year’s One Dublin One Book. I could never have imagined, upon entering Dublin as a lost culchie, that my confrontation with the place would fuel the world of a novel. Dublin has a habit of showing people who they are. In the early stages of writing Snowflake, the characters stayed within the confines of their rural village. It was only when I sent them to Dublin that they began to reveal themselves to me. It is an honour to unleash this story into the imagination of a city that helped to bring it to life.”
Dublin City Librarian, Mairead Owens, says “Country meets city in this award-winning debut novel from Louise Nealon. With its wide-ranging themes and characters, Snowflake is about fresh starts, change & how we deal with challenging times. I know book clubs across the city will have plenty to talk about and I encourage everyone to get a copy of the book at their local library and come along to the many events planned across the Dublin region.”
Snowflake was proposed and selected through a Dublin Public Libraries process drawing on the knowledge and expertise of public library staff.
Copies of Snowflake have been purchased by Dublin City Libraries and are available to borrow from all public libraries nationwide, and on eBook & eAudiobook format through the free BorrowBox library app. The eAudiobook will be available on 1st April via Borrowbox. The new One Dublin One Book edition of Snowflake is also available to buy from all good book shops.
