Bus Stop Design

The C2CC Project will provide one-way segregated cycle facilities on each side of the road through the route. Where the segregated cycle track runs alongside bus stop waiting areas, these areas have been designed based on the concept of island bus stops, with some improvements made to address accessibility concerns. The C2CC Project bus stop design provides a pedestrian priority route to and from the bus stop waiting area. The pedestrian priority route can be identified by visually impaired users by a slight ramping up of the footpath at the location of the crossing, and in addition by the two strips of guidance tactile leading to and from the bus stop waiting area. The pedestrian priority route may be more suitable for vulnerable users, wheelchair users and people with prams, buggies or suitcases.

Cyclists will be expected to slow and give priority to pedestrians crossing or intending to cross at this location. An advertisement campaign will be run to communicate and promote the proper use of these bus stop crossings and to encourage courtesy between users. The success of this design will depend on the behaviour of users of the cycle track in giving priority to pedestrians and users of the pedestrian priority crossing.
