The Dodder Greenway and Flood Defence Project - Herbert Park to Donnybrook Road, is part of the Dublin City Council (DCC) core active travel network. It is funded by the National Transport Authority (NTA) and the Office of Public Works (OPW)”. It provides high quality walking and cycling facilities along the banks of the River Dodder for a distance of 460m. The greenway extends from Eglinton Terrace, beside entrance to Herbert Park, to Donnybrook Road, beside Anglesey Bridge. It is a primary route in the NTA Greater Dublin Area Cycle Network Plan. The project includes signalized pedestrian crossings, extensive upgrades to landscaping including tree planting and other greening measures.
The project delivers the following benefits:
- Provides high quality, continuous, safe and accessible protected cycling facilities to cater for all ages and abilities to meet existing and future demand;
- Provides high quality greenway for walking, wheeling & cycling along the west bank of the River Dodder.
- Provides a section of the Dodder Greenway from Anglesey Bridge to Eglinton Terrace (beside Herbert Park entrance).
- Improved pedestrian facilities by upgrading footpaths and installing a pedestrian crossings at Donnybrook Road.
- Upgraded flood defences from Anglesey Bridge to Eglington Terrace.
- Contributes to a reduction in transport emissions in line with the objectives of the Climate Action Plan by encouraging a modal shift to active travel and public transport use.
