Dodder Greenway Project
The Dodder Greenway Project, is part of the Dublin City Council core active travel network. It is funded by the National Transport Authority (NTA). The Dodder Greenway project will deliver high quality walking and cycling facilities along the Dodder River from the sea to the mountains through Dublin City Council, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and South Dublin County Council.
Milltown Road - Dodder Walk to Dundrum Road
Dodder Walk to Dundrum Road has been identified as a suitable location for rapid build walking and cycling facilities. It will facilitate a continuous route along the Dodder corridor in advance of the Dodder Greenway project.
About the Scheme
Dodder Walk to Nine Arches Bridge
A two-way segregated cycle facility will be provided on the southern side of Milltown Road from Dodder Walk to west of the Nine Arches Bridge. The junctions at Dodder Walk, South Hill Road and Churchtown Road will be upgraded. To facilitate the scheme between South Hill Road and the Dropping Well, public lighting columns will be relocated, existing ESB overhead cables will be grounded and the existing trees will be replaced with mature native species on the northern side. A new Toucan Crossing will be provided at the existing western entrance to Shanagarry Park allowing access to Richmond Avenue South and Milltown Luas Station. Contraflow cycling will be introduced on Richmond Avenue South. Existing bus stops will be maintained along the route.
Nine Arches Bridge to Dundrum Road
The existing one-way cycle lanes on Milltown Road from the Nine Arches Bridge to the Dundrum Road will be upgraded to a raised cycle track which will be kerb separated from vehicles with a 60mm kerb between cyclists and pedestrians. A new toucan crossing will be provided at the existing eastern entrance to Shanagarry Park allowing access to the Packhorse Bridge and the south side of the River Dodder and the Dodder Trail. Existing Bus stops will be maintained along this section. A protected priority junction will be provided at the junction of Milltown Road and Dundrum Road
