FAQ's
- To facilitate the delivery of the Greater Dublin Area (GDA) Cycle Network Plan
- To contribute to an increase in cycling mode share along the corridor by improving access to key education, employment, retail and transport destinations.
- To reduce the risk of cyclist collisions through segregation from traffic, where practicable and minimising conflicts.
- To encourage increased levels of physical activity and leisure use along the corridor through provision of a safe, high-quality and attractive route for both cyclists and pedestrians
The scheme is being delivered in two phases because there are a number of projects at various stages of design & delivery affecting Merrion Square North, Clare Street & Nassau Street. in order to ensure a joined up approach to implementation & design of these schemes, The decision was made to split the Trinity to Ballsbridge Scheme into two sections with the section along Mount Street Lower & Northumberland Road being prepared for implementation first.
Some of the other projects contributing to this decision are:
- Fitzwilliam Walking & Cycling Scheme
- Merrion Square Tea Rooms
- Dublin Bus Network Re-design
- Merrion Street Walking & Cycling Scheme (Part of City Quay to Harcourt Street)
- Draft Dublin City Centre Transport Plan 2023
The project is to be 100% funded by the National Transport Agency (NTA)
- Due to the implementation of 24 hour bus lanes on Northumberland Road all existing parking spaces operating outside of bus lane hours, will no longer be available for parking.
- A 12m indented parking zone on the North side of Mount Street Lower will be required to be removed – cycle parking is proposed to be provided at this location.
- No disabled parking spaces are proposed to be removed by the scheme.
- A 12m section of Loading bay and Taxi Rank at the Western end of Mount Street Lower is proposed to be removed by the scheme.
A 12m length of existing indented parking on the north side of Mount Street Lower is proposed to be converted to a cycle parking zone with suitable cycle stands provided.
- Due to limited available road space and the requirement to retain bus lanes, along sections of the route that aren’t fully segregated it is intended to provide shared bus/cycle lanes where the bicycle has priority over bus & taxi traffic
- In the future permanent scheme it may be possible to realign the roadway or reroute traffic in order to provide fully segregated facilities.
