Dublin Bay UNESCO Biosphere Discovery Centre

The Dublin Bay Discovery Centre is a planned interpretive and education hub for North Bull Island, located within the Dublin Bay UNESCO Biosphere.

Designed to foster public understanding of North Bull Island’s unique ecology, the Dublin Bay Discovery Centre will serve as a gateway to the nature reserve and a base for conservation, research and community engagement.

The proposed centre will:

  • Provide universal access and inclusive facilities for all visitors.
  • Offer year-round interpretation of Dublin Bay’s rich biodiversity, including migratory birds, marine life and dune ecosystems.
  • Support education programmes, scientific research and citizen science initiatives.
  • Act as a management HQ for the nature reserve and a forum for local community involvement.
  • Promote low-impact visitation, helping to reduce disturbance to sensitive habitats.

The building design reflects a low-carbon ethos, with a reduced footprint, timber frame construction and integration into the reclaimed landscape along the Causeway Road. The project is being developed in collaboration with local stakeholders and conservation experts. It also aligns with the goals of the North Bull Island Management Plan 2020–2025.
