Permanent Scheme: South Circular Road to Thomas Street and St. James' Linear Park

These works are part of the Kilmainham to Thomas Street Active Travel Scheme. These two sections are currently at the Preliminary Design phase.

A multidisciplinary design team has been appointed to develop designs for a permanent high quality walking and cycling route along the full extent of the Kilmainham to Thomas Street Cycling Improvement Scheme.

Interim measures have already been implemented and plans for permanent upgrades at the junction of Suir Road and Davitt Road are underway. The third and fourth section of this scheme will be delivered together.

These include:

  • New works to the junction of South Circular Road / Kilmainham Lane, South Circular Road, Suir Road and Grand Canal View. The implementation of a new connection from Marrowbone Lane to Thomas Street and the upgrade of the interim measures that were already installed during the first section of this scheme.
  • An upgrade of St. James’ Linear Park between South Circular Road and Suir Road in line with the St James’s linear Park Masterplan. This will provide cycling facilities through the park and refurbishment of the park.

Public consultation for these final sections is expected to take place at the end of 2025. New information regarding design plans and public consultations will be published on this page as it becomes available.
