Encyclopædia Britannica

Encyclopædia Britannica contains hundreds of thousands of objective articles on all major topics as well as a wide selection of biographies and videos. The entries are compiled by experts from around the world, as well as by their own team of editors who all have expertise in their subject areas. All the entries are fact-checked and edited to ensure high standards of readability, reliability and accuracy. Articles are edited for length in order to provide students (and other researchers) with plenty of background information without overwhelming them. Existing articles are also revised and updated on a regular basis to reflect new developments in those areas of knowledge.

Different age groups with different learning and research needs are catered to as follows:

For ages 18+    Encyclopaedia Britannica from Home.

For ages 12 – 18     Britannica Student from your Home.

For ages 5 – 11     Britannica Junior from your Home.

Features of Britannica include carefully curated browses, data tables and maps, all of which make it easy and fun to explore a variety of topics:

-    Article and Media Browses: From animals to plants, arts to sports, places to people, and history to technology, Britannica’s browses make it easy to pick a category. You can scan a wide variety of related information or dig deep into a specific topic.

-    Biography Browses: Learn more about interesting people from the past and present. You can filter Britannica’s biographical articles by their era, culture, field of knowledge, or gender.

-    Animal Kingdom Browses: (Available in Britannica Junior only.) Investigate the wild, wide world of animals! Read about animal families and see animals that belong to the same family by group; learn about different types of environments and the animals that live there by habitat; or see all animal articles alphabetically by name.

-    Compare Countries: Evaluate the similarities and differences between two countries or territories of the world. You can quickly find key statistics, see flags and maps, and locate related resources.
