About the Online Planning Application Process
Dublin City Council is going live on the Local Government National Online Planning Portal On 9th September 2024.
You can no longer make a planning application on Dublin City Council’s current online service. From 09:00hrs on Monday 9th September 2024, planning applications for Dublin City will be made via the National Online Planning Portal, at this link Local Government Ireland Planning System
You can make an online planning application for the following types of applications:
- Permission,
- Retention Permission,
- Outline permission and
- Permission Consequent of Grant of Outline Permission.
If you are submitting an application for works requiring both Permission and Retention, please select “Retention Permission” as the “Type of Planning Permission”. The description of the proposed development on your public notices must define clearly, the works which require Permission and the works which require Retention Permission.
Applications for sites including or within the curtilage of Protected Structures and also for Large Residential Developments, can now be submitted using the National Online Planning Portal.
To use this facility you must first Register your details and create a user account. Once an account has been created, you can manage your online applications.
You will have the ability to:
- View/Clone previously submitted applications
- Create a draft application
- Check on the current status of an application
- Submit further information for applications lodged through the National Online Planning Portal only.
What information/documentation do I need to complete an online application?
- Copy of newspaper notice. You must scan the entire page of the newspaper in which the notice appears. Note: The date of publication and the name of the newspaper must be clearly visible.
- Scanned copy of the signed site notice. This document must be in colour format.
- Drawings.
- If your application requires the consent of the owner, you must include a scanned copy of this document with your application (Please note that personal contact details are not required).
- Credit card/Debit card details.
Important information to note in relation to the format and size of documents to be attached to your application.
- Before attaching documents to your application ensure that they are saved in PDF format.
- Interactive/Editable/Annotated PDFs must be saved as “Print to PDF” before uploading to the Portal.
- Ensure that all Drawings are non-encrypted.
- Each document must be under 20MBS in size.
- Unlimited number of documents can be uploaded.
All mandatory fields on the form must be completed. The system will not allow you to continue with the application process until you have entered information in these fields.
How will I know if my application has been received?
You will receive email confirmation of your payment of the planning fees, which will include a 12 digit Online Reference Number.
What is the registration date of my application?
An application lodged up to midnight will be registered as received on that day. Otherwise, the registration date will be the next day.
