Active Travel Network Delivery Programme

The Active Travel Network will be delivered through a series of infrastructural projects.
These projects, also known as permanent schemes, will expand the network from its existing 10km to a total of 310km across the city.
These projects will be coordinated by the Active Travel Programme Office, who are responsible for the delivery of 210km of the network. The final 90km of active travel infrastructure will be delivered by the BusConnects programme.
Alongside permanent schemes, interim measures are proposed to expedite the delivery of the network in many locations across Dublin City.
Permanent Schemes
Permanent schemes will improve the experience of walking, wheeling and cycling within Dublin City Council by reimagining our streetscapes.
Each project will be bespoke in its design and may include undertakings such as the widening of footpaths or the creation of grade-separated cycling facilities.
Permanent Schemes will be constructed over three delivery periods: 2022-2024, 2025-2027 and Post 2027.
2022-2024
25 projects are proposed to be delivered between 2022 and 2024.
These projects will be delivered at various locations throughout the city and will increase the total length of the Active Travel Network to 57km.
2025-2027
2025-2027 will see the delivery of 27 projects, covering a distance of 83km.
Increasing the total length of the Active Travel Network to 140km, the completion of this delivery phase will significantly increase network connectivity and interaction.
Post 2027
A further 28 projects are proposed for delivery beyond 2027, encompassing a distance of 80km.
The completion of these projects will conclude the Active Travel Programme’s Office existing delivery programme.
Interim Measures
Interim measures utilise existing road space to improve the cycling experience throughout Dublin City.
This will be accomplished through methods such as light segregation and improved signage at appropriate locations.
Interim measures aim to improve the connectivity of the Active Travel Network whilst permanent schemes are being designed
Active Travel Network - Interactive Map (GIS Map)
To complement the downloadable maps, a GIS Active Travel (AcT) Network Map has been developed to display the following:
- The Active Travel Network delivered under Dublin City Council.

- & Active Travel Network, which has already been delivered
The user will be able to search NTA Funded Projects by project name and see:
- The status of the projects (both pertaining to interim measures and permanent measures)
- The Delivery Phase (i.e. 2022-2024,2025-2027 & Post 2027)
- When information relating to each project was last updated)
The mapzone version of the GIS can be accessed here: ATN Map (dublincity.ie)
An additional GIS platform (Feature analyser) will be released in the coming days to allow for a more immersive experience of this data
