Starting on 8th August, all city centre bound private car traffic traveling through Fairview will not be permitted to proceed on to Annesley Bridge Road and will instead, be diverted onto Fairview Strand Road, Ballybough Road, Portland Row. The diversion ends at the junction of Portland Row with Amiens Street.

  • The overall length of the Project is 2.7km
  • 6km of new and upgraded cycling lanes
  • 5.4km of upgraded bus lanes
  • 8km of upgraded pedestrian walkways
  • €62.5 million is the Project budget
  • 114 trees are to be planted as part of this Project, however 44 are to be removed, which is a net gain of 70 trees.  For more information on trees click here
  • 79 dedicated public car parking bays are to be retained along the route, of which 37 are in the north inner city section, and 42 are along the Clontarf Section.  There is an overall estimated reduction of 54, 46 of which are in the North Inner City, and 8 are in Clontarf.  For more information on parking click here

The primary aim of project is to provide high quality segregated cycling, walking / running and public transport facilities along its route. The Clontarf to City Centre Cycle & Bus Priority Project (C2CC Project) will provide segregated cycling facilities and bus priority infrastructure along a 2.7km route that extends from Clontarf Road at the junction with Alfie Byrne Road, to Amiens Street at the junction with Talbot Street. The route is identified as a primary route in the Greater Dublin Area Cycle Network Plan, published by the National Transport Authority in 2013. A part of the Tolka Valley Greenway is also included in the project, linking Annesley Bridge Road to Alfie Byrne Road via Fairview Park.

Starting on 8th August, all city centre bound private car traffic traveling through Fairview will not be permitted to proceed onto Annesley Bridge Road and will be diverted onto Fairview Strand Road, Ballybough Road, Portland Row. The diversion ends at the junction of Portland Row with Amiens Street.

To allow the contractor carryout the works, including diversion of underground services, water, drainage, gas mains, and communications and electricity utilities. Following the below ground works, the new cycling, walking, bus and bus stop facilities are then constructed. Certain sections of North Strand Road are quite narrow and the diversion allows for the works to be carried out while seeking to minimise disruption overall.

Traffic volumes are lightest in August, so starting the diversion now gives motorists the best opportunity to become familiar with the diversion and consider adjusting their travel plans.

If you travel by car inbound via Fairview and North Strand Road to the City Centre, the diversion will affect you. Private motor cars will be required to follow the diversion route, or take an alternative route.

Traveling by bus, cycling, walking, running options are unaffected by the diversion. Rail travel is also unaffected by the routes.

Plan your public transport journey in advance with the Transport for Ireland's Journey Planner.

In general some Bus Stops will be moved temporarily during construction. Initially along the Project Route stops were maintained, however, as construction progresses and the project takes shape, some Bus Stops which are not part of the final design will gradually be removed. Currently the most up-to-date information on Bus Stops and changes is available on https://www.dublinbus.ie/ including  its news section.

No

No, walking routes / footways will be maintained on both sides of Annesley Bridge Road and North Strand Road. There may be localised temporary changes to accommodate construction, but access will be maintained throughout.

The diversion will begin in August and is scheduled to end in early 2024

Access to Businesses along the route will be maintained, however some disruption is inevitable, and our Contractor will liaise with the businesses as required.

Access to homes along the route will be maintained, however some disruption is inevitable, and our Contractor will liaise with the residents as required.

The operation of the traffic signals at junctions along the route have undergone a number of changes since the commencement of the construction works to facilitate the delivery of the project, this is monitored and changes are made as the project progresses.

Most junctions are controlled by Dublin City Council’s SCATS Adaptive Traffic Management System. SCATS is highly adaptive and capable of allocating time to different movements and determining the overall required cycle length (time for all movements in the junction to take place) by selecting appropriate pre-defined plans to reflect traffic volumes on various approaches via detection installed on site. Please also note that SCATS also interfaces with the Dublin Public Transport Interface Module (DPTIMs) to provide a number of interventions to assist bus movements through junctions. DPTIMs detects buses virtually and applies plans in SCATS to assist with bus priority. This can temporarily have the effect of shorter phase times for some traffic movements as SCATS adjusts the timings to assist the movement of buses through the junction. This is in line with City Council/national policy of prioritising the movement of more sustainable modes of travel.
