International Literacy Day
Published on 1st September 2025
We're celebrating International Literacy Day 2025 on 8 September by showcasing the wide variety of resources provided by the service to promote adult literacy.
This year’s theme is, ‘Promoting literacy in the digital era’.
This theme emphasises the importance of giving people the necessary skills to navigate our increasingly digital world. It acknowledges the transformative impact of digital technologies on how we learn, work, and communicate. Digitalisation has changed the way we live in both positive and negative ways. Literacy is a key for making this transformation inclusive, relevant, and meaningful.

Our branches will host book displays, digital clinics, and information sessions with adult literacy services.
- Coolock Library will host a drop-in digital resources clinic from Monday 8 September to Saturday 13 September.
- Kevin Street Library will have an information stand with City of Dublin FET College on Wednesday 3 September.
- Dolphin's Barn Library will also host a City of Dublin information stand on Wednesday 3 September.
All libraries will highlight their easy reads collections and provide information on resources in the community.
We also have a wide range of resources that support digital literacy. Free and convenient access to technology allows people to develop their digital skills.
These resources include:
Acorn Age Friendly Tablets
C-Pens
AAC Devices
Creative Studios
The digital environment has made lifelong learning easier by removing physical barriers to education.
