European Mobility Week - Walk to School Competition
European Mobility Week is the European Commission’s flagship awareness-raising campaign on sustainable urban mobility. Cities across Europe take part in European Mobility Week to promote sustainable transport modes such as walking, cycling, scooting or using public transport instead of their car, where possible. It takes place from 16th – 22nd September.
This year Dublin City Council is partnering with An Taisce’s Green-Schools Travel Programme to encourage as many students, parents and staff to walk to school any day during European Mobility Week.
What’s involved?
We are inviting schools across Dublin City to try to walk or park & stride if they can during this week and submit entries to our EMW Walk to School competition. This year schools will be in with a chance to win 2 x €200 vouchers for PE gear or an opportunity to take part in a promotional video!
Primary Schools
Students are invited to take on the role of investigators and record what they see, hear and feel on their walk to school and work together to create an artwork of their collective experience of walking to school. Teachers are invited to use An Taisce’s Green-Schools' resource to support their students in investigating what they experience on their walk to school. The school with the highest numbers of new students walking to school wins!
Secondary Schools
Do you walk to school or will you walk during European Mobility Week? How does it make you feel? What do you see on your journey? Who do you meet along the way? Do your friends join you on your walk or is it a solo adventure?
We're inviting secondary school students to create a poster focused on the positive aspects of walking to school. This isn't just a normal poster, we want you to get creative! We are looking for posters that display the most fun fact or that highlight the benefits of walking to school in the most imaginative way.
Green Schools have a number of Fun Facts on Walking that can be used as inspiration for your poster!
The school with the best poster will win!
