Dublin City Council Announces Lifting of Inbound Diversion between Edge’s Corner and Five Lamps Junction
Dublin City Council is pleased to announce a key milestone in the ongoing Clontarf to City Centre (C2CC) Scheme. Starting 6pm this Sunday evening, 1st September 2024, the inbound general traffic diversion between Edge’s Corner (Fairview Strand) and the Five Lamps Junction will be lifted. This diversion, which rerouted inbound traffic via Ballybough and Portland Row, has been a crucial component in facilitating the progress of construction along North Strand Road.
With significant advancements made on the outbound side of North Strand Road in recent months, the reopening of the inbound lane on Annesley Bridge Road and North Strand Road marks an important step towards the completion of the C2CC Scheme, and the realization of a key element of Dublin City Council’s Active Travel Network, improving access, connectivity and sustainable mobility, and also contributing to a citywide reduction of transport-related carbon emissions.
Dublin City Council thanks the public for their patience and cooperation during this phase of the project, and we look forward to the continued progress and ultimate completion of the C2CC Scheme, an integral part of the Active Travel Network, which will enhance quality of life by connecting all people through the delivery of a walk-wheel-cycle network.

Key Details
- Date and Time: The inbound traffic lane will reopen on the evening of Sunday, 1st September 2024.
- Route Affected: Inbound general traffic between Edge’s Corner (Fairview Strand) and Five Lamps Junction will be permitted once again along Annesley Bridge Road and North Strand Road.
- Notification: To ensure commuters and local traffic are informed, Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be installed along the route in advance. Additionally, updates will be shared on the Scheme’s website, DCC Alerts and social media platforms.
Ongoing Works: While this change will improve traffic flow, it is important to note that off-peak works, including mid-week evenings and weekends, will continue in the coming months. These works will focus on completing remaining junction installations and addressing any snagging issues. Temporary road and cycle track closures may still occur during these times.
About Dublin City Council's Active Travel Network
Dublin City Council's planned 310km Active Travel Network aims to transform the city's lifestyle by expanding its walk-wheel-cycle infrastructure. By the end of this year, the network will have grown to 30km from an initial 10km.
When complete, the network will ensure that 95% of residents will be within 400m of the network. This will connect them to the various employment areas and amenities across the city.

About the Clontarf to City Centre (C2CC) Active Travel Project
The C2CC Project will provide segregated cycling facilities and bus priority infrastructure along a 2.7km route that extends from Clontarf Road at the junction with Alfie Byrne Road, to Amiens Street at the junction with Talbot Street. The project is due to be fully completed in Q4 2024.
The C2CC Project is a complex public infrastructure project that is delivering active travel infrastructure, bus priority infrastructure and a range of public amenities that include:
- 6 major junction upgrades
- 8km of upgraded pedestrian walkways
- 6.8km of new and upgraded cycle lanes
- 5.4km of upgraded bus lanes
- replacing 6.5km of century-old water mains
- a variety of other utility upgrades such as ESB, Bord Gáis and communications networks
- public realm improvements including 8 community plazas, greening measures and sustainable urban drainage

This leaflet was distributed in print during the last week of March and the first week of April to 58,260 residents and businesses along the works area, and in the wider Ballybough, Fairview, Marino, East Wall and Clontarf areas.

On March 28th 2022, a sod turning ceremony took place in Fairview Park, attended by Lord Mayor of Dublin Alison Gilliland, Oliver Dalton from the National Transport Authority, DCC chief executive Owen Keegan and the DCC Project Team, project consulting engineers Roughan & O'Donovan, the Clonmel Enterprises construction team, members of the consultative forum Colm Ryder and Mark Crowther, and local Councillors.

The scheme was officially opened on the 28th of November 2024. Snagging works are likely to continue along the Scheme for several months. This slight delay is due to the following additional, necessary works including community gain measures. These are additional utility works across a range of utility companies, the provision of two additional bus stops, and delayed access to lands at Connolly station due to ongoing conservation works.
